Who am I?
I am a lecturer and researcher in the Department of English Literature and Culture at Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. I have completed my PhD thesis at the University of Roehampton, London, UK in 2024. I am also a Trustee and Membership Secretary of the Graham Greene Birthplace Trust Charity, and am the Associate Editor of the International Journal of James Bond Studies.
My current research is engaged in exploring the connection of James Bond author Ian Fleming to wider literary cultures of modernism, intermodernism, and thriller fiction in mid-century Britain and America. I am also putting together a collection of essays on "Florida Noir," a unique genre of writing, film, television, and video games set in this American state. I have previously published articles on authors Ian Fleming, Graham Greene, and H. P. Lovecraft.
My research interests include:
- Twentieth century literature, culture, and history
- Modernism, intermodernism, and postmodernism
- Spy thrillers and other genre fiction and films
- Art and architecture in literature
- Global networks, technologies, and simulacra since 1945
What do I teach?
In addition to introductory courses, my teaching focuses on the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, with courses that cover history, culture, and media produced since 1900. Specifically, I teach classes on genres such as espionage or detective fiction, or literary movements such as modernism.
What theses do I supervise?
I am happy to supervise theses that connect with any of my research interests, especially those working with genre fictions (such as spy, thriller, detective, science, etc.)
