Ecke, Jochen Dr.

Who am I?

I am a lecturer in English Literature at Johannes Gutenberg University. My research focuses on comic books (PhD, 2013), film history and Romanticism/the Gothic (and its transformation into the Weird Tale at the beginning of the 20th century). In terms of methodology, I am especially interested in literary form, multimodality, media literacy and cognitive approaches to literary studies.

I am also the study advisor for international students, including Erasmus students. If you are an international student with questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with me.

What do I teach?

I teach classes in literary and cultural studies, e.g., on academic writing, film history ("The British New Wave of the 1960s", "British Noir"), the Gothic and Romanticism, as well as on comic books and serial storytelling.

What theses do I supervise?

I will gladly supervise theses connected with my areas of interest as outlined above. However, if you have an idea where the connection may not be readily apparent, I'm happy to discuss it during my office hour(s).
